Meet the Team
Andrew O’Connell, CFA, FRM
Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Head Trader
Prior to proprietary trading, Andrew served as a senior investment analyst on The Vanguard Group’s Fixed Income trading desk. At Vanguard, he supported the management of over $1.5 trillion in capital, spanning a wide array of strategies including investment grade and high yield credit; emerging markets; and fixed income derivatives.
Andrew graduated from LaSalle University with a dual in Economics and Finance, and competed on the Division I Men’s Tennis Team.
While working at Vanguard, Andrew earned Financial Risk Manager (FRM) in 2017, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA designation) in 2018, and actively traded his own personal accounts. He successfully identified and traded market-moving trends ahead of consensus, including Canadian cannabis legalization in 2016, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in 2017 and the Trump trade war in 2019. These wins afforded him the opportunity to leave the corporate world and pursue trading full-time.
He joined proprietary trading firm Maverick Trading as an equity options trader in 2019, where he completed a rigorous training program and developed the trading system he uses today. His style includes CANSLIM relative strength trend trading, as well as event-driven setups.
He founded Pristine Capital in 2021 to create a professional environment for traders to develop their own systems and edges, share setups a in a team-based environment, and achieve elite performance.
